Blue Sky Meats’ southern lamb features in Beijing embassy opening

Southern meat processor Blue Sky Meats’ high-quality produce featured on the international stage as guests including New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Adern were served its lamb at a visit to the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing on Monday.

The Prime Minister spent 24 hours in China where she met with China’s President Xi Jinping. During the final part of her trip she formally opened the New Zealand’s new embassy compound at a special ceremony where she also hosted New Zealand businesses.

The meat is supplied to the embassy by Chinese supplier Dalian GuangYi, which Blue Sky Meats has supplied to since 1990. It has its own further processing plant, retail store and private kitchen in Dalian City and it supplies lamb to high-end supermarkets and food services across the city.

It also has sales networks in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou cities to supply premium cuts and Blue Sky Meats CEO Todd Grave said there is a strong demand for more.

“During our last meeting in Auckland, they have expressed their interests on chilled shipments destined for Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

“Building and maintaining a strong relationship with China has been a strong focus for our Government, and seeing our unique southern lamb served by our Chinese supplier at the New Zealand Embassy in Beijing is an example of that successful relationship,” he said.
